SOLEDAD — Soledad High senior pitcher Vidal Perez struck out 10 Hollister Haybalers to earn the pitching win in the Aztecs’ 5-3 road victory.

Ethan Sanchez relieved Perez in the final inning to get the save.

Daniel Valenzuela led Soledad with three hits and had three runs batting in. Anakin Tavarez finished with two hits and two RBIs, and Anthony Medina added two hits and had one RBI.

The Aztecs then struggled against Palma, losing 16-0 on the road and finishing the series with a 7-2 setback at home. 

In the first game, Chieftain pitcher Jackson Harris threw a complete one-hitter. Leo Flores had Soledad’s only hit of the game.

The Aztecs (3-8 in Gabilan and 6-11 overall) played Tuesday at Hollister, and then will host Marina on Wednesday and Hollister on Thursday afternoon.

King City (6-0 in Cypress and 6-11 overall) played just one game last week, falling 13-3 to the host Alisal Trojans.

As Alisal pulled away to a large lead early, the Mustangs used four pitchers in the contest to get everyone playing time.

King City will return to action on April 28 at Greenfield, and will host the North Salinas Vikings the following day. Both contests are Cypress divisional games.

Greenfield did not play last week due to spring break but will host the Everett Alvarez Eagles on Wednesday and travel to Salinas on Friday for the away game with the Eagles.

The Bruins are 3-4 in the Mission Division and 10-4 overall.

Gonzales High won a pair of games last week, shutting out the Marina Mariners by an 11-0 score and finishing the week with a 12-1 victory over the Mariners.

The Spartans (3-4 in Cypress and 3-7 overall) played on Monday at Alisal in Salinas for their only game of the week.
