SALINAS VALLEY — King City High varsity baseball team won its fourth straight game and improved to 3-0 and first place in the Cypress Division. King City won division games over Marina and Pajaro, and defeated Greenfield in a non-division game.

Last Tuesday the Mustangs downed the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies at home by a 23-0 score.

Eduardo Aguirre-Rangel was the winning pitcher and recorded six strikeouts. Leading the KC hitters were Joey Pina and RJ Ayon with two hits and Dylan Conaster with a homerun and four runs batted in.

“The game was powered by dominant pitching and aggressive offense,” said King City head coach Gabriel Soto. “Eddie Rangel threw a no-hitter with six strikeouts.”

Two days later the Mustangs followed up with a 6-3 win against the Marina Mariners. Rangel hit a key two-RBI double in the game and Ernesto Aguirre and Joaquin Sabala closed out the Mariners from the mound.

King City wrapped up the week with a 10-0 victory at Greenfield. The win was the first win over the Bruins since 2021. Joey Pina threw five scoreless, no-hit innings, and Pina added two RBIs at the plate.

Offensively, Pable Aguirre, Nick Tankersley and Ernesto Aguirre contributed key RBIs while freshman RJ Ayon added extra base hits. Jacoby Chavez set the tone with multiple stolen bases. Speed on the bases and clean defense made for a complete team effort.

King City improved to 5-5 overall with the wins. The Mustangs played at Marina on Tuesday (after press deadlines) and will not play again until April 13.

Greenfield (9-4 overall) played Tuesday at Pacific Grove and will host the Breakers on Thursday.

Soledad Aztecs dropped a pair of games in the Gabilan Division, losing by a 3-1 score at St. Francis and by 13-3 at home to the Sharks.

The Aztecs are 4-5-1 overall and 1-5 in the Gabilan. This week Soledad hosted Carmel on Monday, travels to play the Padres on Wednesday and completes the week at San Lorenzo Valley on Saturday.

Gonzales Spartans are 0-2 in league and 0-3 overall after falling 8-4 to North Salinas last Thursday. The Spartans faced North Salinas again Tuesday at home before taking a break, with their next game set for April 13 at Pajaro Valley.
