GREENFIELD — Greenfield High pitchers Fabian Gonzales and Nathaniel Trujillo allowed six hits combined as the Bruins won a home game, 7-5, against the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs on April 2.
Gonzales earned the victory allowing four hits and five runs and had three strikeouts. Trujillo pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and no runs and had two strikeouts.
Greenfield finished with 10 hits as a team and Danny Nava led the Bruins with four basehits. Trujillo contributed with two hits.
Greenfield is 1-3 in the Mission Division and 8-3 overall.
Last Friday Greenfield suffered a 10-0 shutout against the host MVC Mustangs in Watsonville.
The Bruins will travel to Salinas on Wednesday to play the Rancho San Juan Trailblazers and then will host them on Friday.
The King City Mustangs improved to 4-0 in the Cypress Division last week with a 13-0 and a 15-0 sweep of the Marina Mariners.
In the first game, JC Navarro threw a no-hitter and struck out 11 batters. The Mustangs finished with eight total hits and were led by Navarro and Axel Chavez, each of whom had two hits.
In the second game with Marina, Joey Pina was the winning pitcher. Navarro had two hits and Angel Espinoza had three. Mateo Blair led King City with three runs batted in.
On Tuesday, the Mustangs played Seaside on the Monterey Peninsula (after press deadlines) and will next host the Gonzales Spartans on Thursday in King City.
The Soledad Aztecs participated in the South City Spring Classic Tournament last week in South San Francisco.
The Aztecs lost 5-4 to host South San Francisco in the first game, were shut out by El Camino in their second game and concluded the tournament with an 11-1 win against Mission Senior. Vidal Perez led Soledad with two hits.
The Aztecs (4-8 overall and 1-5 in the Gabilan Division) hosted the Monterey Toreadores on Tuesday in Soledad and will play Monterey on Thursday at Sollecito Park.
Gonzales fell to 0-3 in the Cypress and 0-5 overall after a pair of losses to North Salinas. The Spartans lost by a 15-0 score in the home game against the Vikings.
Gonzales played Tuesday at Pajaro Valley and will host the Grizzlies on Thursday.
