MONTEREY COUNTY — Arts Council for Monterey County (Arts4MC) has announced the recipients of its Individual Artists Grants.

These grants provide vital support to artists, enabling them to create new works, connect with diverse audiences, and enhance the cultural experiences of residents and visitors alike.

Artists who demonstrate the significant impact this support will have on their work and the community can receive a financial stipend of up to $5,000 for emerging artists and up to $10,000 for established artists.

After a highly competitive review of applications, just under $100,000 was awarded across 19 grants by an independent panel of jurors composed of Alan Durst, Audrey Summers, Berniz House, Carol LeFever, Dexter Farm, Gail Lehman, Gordon Dill, Hillary Fish, John Jernigan, Karen Jernigan, Laurie Bend, Laurie Iwami, Nura Agzamova-Turek, Pat Skinner, Pilar Mendoza, Ritka Kumar, Rosemary Soto, Sandra Gray, Sarah Hoeffel, Sonia Chapa, Susan Klusmire and Terrence Gargiulo.

“We are thrilled to recognize and support the exceptional talent within our community through these Individual Artists Grants,” said Jacquie Atchison, executive director of Arts4MC. “The arts play a vital role in fostering connections, sparking dialogue, and fostering creativity. By investing in our local artists, we not only nurture their individual growth but also enrich the cultural fabric of our region.”

The recipients of the grants represent a diverse array of artistic disciplines, including visual arts, performing arts, literary arts and more. From filmmakers and sculptors to writers and musicians, each grantee brings a unique perspective and artistic voice to Monterey County.

Arts4MC remains committed to supporting the arts and ensuring that artists have the resources they need to thrive. Through initiatives like the Individual Artists Grants, Arts4MC continues to champion artistic excellence, innovation and accessibility for all members of the community.

The 2024 Individual Artists Grant Recipients and their respective county districts are: Emerging Artists Katie Raquel (D1), Jessica De La Torre (D1), Jovani Gonzalez (D1), Nathaniel Eramaa (D2), Samantha Saldana (D2), Jeronimo Sanchez (D2), Carlos Villagomez (D3), Alicia Trujillo (D3), Ricardo Ibarra (D3), Robert Daniels (D4), Lisa Young (D4), David Vila Di.guez (D4), Peter Martin (D5), Ava Homa (D5), Lizzy Eichorn (D5), Christina Bailey (D5) and Cailin “Casey” Starks (D5); and Established Artists Jennifer Colby (D2) and Jessica Dune (D5).
