Arts Council for Monterey County

MONTEREY COUNTY — Arts Council for Monterey County (Arts4MC) has awarded more than $118,000 in Arts and Cultural Impact grants to 25 local arts organizations and nonprofits with art programs, thanks to funding from the County of Monterey and the Board of Supervisors.

Arts and Cultural Impact grants are available to nonprofit organizations seeking support for public arts and culture projects/programs, through two funding cycles: one in the spring and one in the fall.

The 2023 Spring Arts and Cultural Impact grant recipients and their respective supervisorial districts are:

  • District 1 — Alisal Center for the Fine Arts, Salinas Valley Pride Celebrations and Salinas Valley Food and Wine Festival;
  • District 2 — Noche Bohemia De Salinas and Wonder Wood Ranch;
  • District 3 — El Sistema USA/YOSAL, Hijos del Sol Arts Productions and King City in Bloom;
  • District 4 — Salinas Juneteenth Celebration, Community Partnership for Youth, Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries, Loaves, Fishes and Computers, New Canon Theatre Co., Musikiwest Inc., Kweens Kounsel and The Parenting Connection of Monterey County; and
  • District 5 — Carmel Heritage Society, Monterey Symphony, Sunset Cultural Center, Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey Bay Power Over Parkinson’s, SpectorDance, Monterey Peninsula Gospel Community Choir, I Cantori di Carmel and Monterey County Theatre Alliance.

“This spring we received an unusually high number of applications, which means more art programs and events are recovering since the pandemic,” said Jacquie Atchison, Arts4MC executive director, “but unfortunately, our resources are not enough to fund all the amazing arts and cultural groups in our county. The arts need more support in our community.”

These grantees play an important role in fulfilling Arts4MC’s mission to improve the quality of life for all people in the region through the arts. The arts are critical for healing, connection and social engagement. In times of crisis, people turn to the arts to help them survive isolation and loss.
