GONZALES — Gonzales Unified School District will implement additional security measures at Gonzales High’s Dick Force Stadium beginning with its home football game Friday, Sept. 18, according to a Sept. 16 letter from Superintendent Keith Thorbhan.
“All attendees will be screened with a handheld security wand prior to entering the stadium,” Thorbhan wrote in the letter.
Bags, purses and other personal carrying items also will be subject to searches. Spectators will not be permitted to re-enter the high school stadium after leaving.
The district said the measures are intended to help maintain a safe environment at home athletic events.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation with our staff during the entry process,” Thorbhan wrote. He encouraged attendees to arrive earlier than usual to allow additional time for security screening.
The new procedures will continue at home athletic events at Dick Force Stadium, according to the district.
