Highway 1 fully reopens on Big Sur coast
BIG SUR — Highway 1 on the Big Sur coast fully reopened on Sept. 14, restoring direct travel between Cambria and Carmel.
Sections of Highway 1 had previously been closed to support emergency response operations for the Plaskett Fire and, before that, the Timber Fire.
Travelers are advised to remain alert for emergency response vehicles and activities as crews continue fire operations at both locations.
Vista Lucia housing project town hall tonight
GONZALES — A community town hall on the Vista Lucia Housing Project is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Gonzales Community Center, 620 Fifth St.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about the project, ask questions and receive an update on where it stands in the process.
The event is hosted by the City of Gonzales. Community members are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.
SPCA offers free microchipping, low-cost vaccinations
SALINAS — SPCA Monterey County will hold a free microchipping and affordable vaccination event Friday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SPCA Veterinary Clinic, 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway.
Microchips will be provided at no cost, while vaccinations will be $25 each. A dewormer will also be available for $5.
Services are available for Monterey County residents with cats and dogs 8 weeks and older. Vaccines offered include rabies, FVRCP and DAPPi.
No appointment is required. Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in secure carriers. Cash and cards will be accepted.

Free concert planned for Friday in King City
KING CITY — City of King will host a free community concert featuring live music by Herencia Humilde from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at the Downtown Plaza.
The all-ages event will offer an evening of music and community gathering. Attendees are encouraged to bring friends and family, along with a chair or blanket for seating.
The concert is free and open to everyone. Downtown Plaza is located on the corner of Broadway and Vanderhurst at 326 Broadway St. in King City.
