SALINAS VALLEY — South Monterey County high school volleyball, flag football and cross country teams start the fall sports season this week, with games and meets scheduled.
Local volleyball teams will be playing Central Coast Section (CCS) Sportsmanship Scrimmages on Thursday, Aug. 27, with Greenfield at Soledad; North Salinas at King City; and Seaside at Gonzales. Varsity games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
When the regular Pacific Coast Athletic League season begins in a few weeks, Greenfield will play in the Cypress Division, while Gonzales, King City and Soledad are in the Mission Division.
In flag football, King City will host Palma on Thursday, and Soledad will host Greenfield on Friday, Aug. 28. King City and Soledad will play in the PCAL’s Mission Division in the regular season.
On Thursday at San Lorenzo Park in King City, the King City cross country team will host the South County Jamboree. The event will start at 4 p.m. and there will be varsity boys and girls races and JV boys and girls races. Participating this year are all four South County schools, along with Avenal and Coalinga.
