Low-cost spay, neuter clinics planned through fall
KING CITY — SPCA Monterey County is offering low-cost mobile spay and neuter clinics in King City and Greenfield through October, supported by donor funding.
Clinics will be held at the King City Recreation Center on Aug. 27, Sept. 10 and Oct. 22, and at the Greenfield Cultural Arts Center on Sept. 3 and Oct. 1.
The clinics are open to Monterey County residents. Spay and neuter surgery costs $75 for dogs and puppies and $35 for cats and kittens, including a rabies vaccination. Services are available for pets ages 2 months to 6 years weighing 2 to 30 pounds.
“Spaying or neutering ends unwanted litters and helps your pet live a longer, healthier life by preventing serious health problems and certain cancers,” stated SPCA. “It’s an easy way to keep your best friend happy, healthy and safe at home with you for years to come.”
Deposits are required to reserve appointments. Appointments can be made at spcamc.org/mobile.
Motorcycle racing joins County Fair arena lineup
MONTEREY — Monterey County Fair will introduce short-track motorcycle racing this year, alongside the return of Flying U Rodeo and Fiesta del Charro at Pattee Arena on Sept. 4-6.
WFO Promotions will present a Championship Short-Track Motorcycle Race at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4. The event will feature riders competing wheel-to-wheel around a short-track course.
Flying U Rodeo returns at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, featuring traditional timed and roughstock events, specialty acts and family entertainment. The rodeo company has entertained audiences for more than 60 years.
Fiesta del Charro will have performances at 3 and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6, showcasing Mexican horsemanship and equestrian traditions. Scheduled specialty performers include rodeo clown Justin Rumford and Charro and rope artist Tomas Garcilazo.
Arena events require separate tickets in addition to Fair admission. Advance ticket purchases are encouraged, as admission prices increase Aug. 31. More information and tickets are available at montereycountyfair.com.
Judges offer Constitution Day presentations to schools
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Superior Court judges and commissioners are offering to visit area schools to provide civic education presentations for fifth-grade classes in recognition of Constitution Day.
Constitution Day is Sept. 17 and commemorates the adoption of the U.S. Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. The presentations will be available during the week of Sept. 14 through 24 and will run approximately 30 to 60 minutes, including time for questions.

More than 90 schools in Monterey County are eligible to participate.
