GREENFIELD — Two Greenfield teenagers were arrested following an attempted armed robbery involving a firearm and a subsequent report of gunfire, according to the Greenfield Police Department.
Officers responded at about 2:25 p.m. on Aug. 9 to a report of an attempted armed robbery involving a firearm at a business in the 200 block of El Camino Real. The suspect had fled before officers arrived.
About seven minutes later, officers received a report that a juvenile had fired a gun near Oak Avenue and Seventh Street. No one was injured.
Greenfield police detectives determined the incidents were connected. Witness statements and surveillance footage from city, residential and business cameras helped investigators identify the teens, police said.
The investigation led to two residential search warrants and the arrests of two local juveniles, ages 16 and 17.
The 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and conspiracy. The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, conspiracy, grossly negligent discharge of a firearm and resisting or delaying an officer.
Both juveniles were transported to Monterey County Juvenile Hall.
Investigators believe one of the teens fired a gun while the pair were fleeing the area after the attempted robbery. The firearm was not recovered.
