GREENFIELD — A 16-year-old Greenfield teen was arrested last Wednesday after allegedly fleeing from police on a bicycle and on foot, during which officers recovered a loaded 9mm ghost gun, according to the Greenfield Police Department.

At about 4 p.m. on July 1, officers attempted to stop a bicyclist in the 400 block of Franscioni Drive for multiple Vehicle Code violations.

Police said the rider refused to stop, abandoned the bicycle and fled on foot. After a brief chase, officers found the teen attempting to hide inside a resident’s garage.

During the pursuit, the teen allegedly discarded a loaded 9mm ghost gun, which officers quickly recovered. A subsequent search of the teen’s residence led to the discovery of additional ammunition compatible with the recovered firearm, police said.

The teen, who was not identified because of his age, was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall on firearms-related and other associated charges.

Police said the incident highlights the dangers posed by illegally possessed firearms, particularly unserialized “ghost guns,” which are difficult to trace and are often possessed by juveniles and prohibited persons.

“The Greenfield Police Department remains committed to removing illegal firearms from our streets and keeping our community safe,” the department said.
