Rodeo celebrates Western culture at Cowboy Gathering

SALINAS — California Rodeo Salinas will host the Clem Albertoni Cowboy Gathering, a celebration of Western heritage and culture, on Saturday, March 28.

The event honors the memory of Clem Albertoni, a longtime master of ceremonies and beloved cowboy poet who passed away in 2021.

The evening will feature traditional cowboy entertainment by Sourdough Slim and Robert Armstrong, with an opening set by local musician Peter Pedrazzi. Sourdough Slim and Armstrong are known for performing at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and venues across the country, sharing a repertoire that spans western classics, country blues, vintage jazz and 1920s-30s string band favorites. Their performances combine heartfelt singing with an array of vintage acoustic instruments, including accordion, guitar, banjo, ukulele, National Steel, musical saw and harmonica, all delivered with a touch of Vaudevillian stagecraft.

The event includes dinner and live and silent auctions, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and entertainment beginning after dinner. Supporters are encouraged to participate as the California Rodeo Salinas continues its mission to preserve and celebrate Western traditions.

Airport weaves natural world with art in new exhibition

MONTEREY — Timing perfectly with the first blooms of spring, the Monterey Airport’s Art at the Airport program has unveiled a special exhibition: “Nature Journaling: A Lens into Conservation.”

This exhibit, in partnership with the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, explores the deep connections between the human and natural worlds through nature journals and art created by Monterey County youth ages 3-17.

Curated by the Museum’s Interpretive Programs Manager Natalie Johnston and Education Director Liese Murphree, the exhibit explores the ways in which humans are part of nature and how flora, fauna and habitats in Monterey County feel meaningful. The pieces invite visitors to engage with the work the same way it was created: by slowing down, observing and being curious about the world around us.

“Nature Journaling: A Lens into Conservation” will be displayed at the Monterey Regional Airport’s Youth Art Gallery through spring 2026.
