WREATH RECYCLING EVENT
KING CITY — There will be a recycling event for wreaths that were placed on veteran graves in December at King City Cemetery. Volunteers can bring hand clippers and meet at the cemetery, 1010 Broadway, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17; enter the cemetery at the back gate. Farm animal owners can pick up the foliage that day. RESOURCE FAIR
LOCKWOOD — Alliance on Aging invites residents of South Monterey County to the first SoMoCo Community Resource Fair on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lockwood Community Center, 65951 Lockwood Road, in Lockwood. The free event will serve community members from Lockwood, San Ardo, San Lucas, Bradley, Bryson, Hesperia and Jolon, connecting them with vital services and local support. Representatives will be on hand to provide information and answer questions about the following: caregiver resources, dementia care, Medicare and Medi-Cal, disaster preparedness, disabilities services, the Ombudsman Program, food resources, tax preparation, home care, transportation, legal services, utility assistance and more. Local sheriff and fire department representatives will also participate. Attendees can enjoy complimentary lunch, raffles and access to a wide range of helpful resources — all in one place. DEERP LAUNCHES
CENTRAL COAST — Monterey Bay Air Resources District (MBARD) has announced that applications for grant funds through the Diesel Engine and Equipment Replacement Program (DEERP) will be accepted beginning Jan. 13. Eligible equipment categories include: off-road equipment replacements, including agricultural equipment; marine engine replacements; and agricultural irrigation pump electrification projects. Grants cannot be used to satisfy existing air quality mandates or legal requirements; however, they can be applied to equipment that complies several years in advance of state regulations. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on March 2. Grant applications are available online at mbard.org/diesel-engine-equipment-replacement-program.
