BOARD MEETING SECURITY
SALINAS — Monterey County has begun interim security screening for the public attending Board of Supervisors meetings starting Jan. 13 at the Government Center, 168 W. Alisal St. in Salinas. Screening will occur at the entrance to the Board Chambers and will include handheld metal-detection wands and bag checks. Signs will be posted to guide visitors, and security staff will be available to assist. County officials said the temporary measures are intended to enhance safety for visitors, employees and County operations. Members of the public planning to attend Tuesday board meetings are encouraged to arrive early to allow extra time for entry. The interim screening will remain in place for all Board meetings as the County works toward long-term security improvements, including installation of a permanent metal detector system.

WALKING AUDIT
CHUALAR — The County of Monterey will host the first community walking audit through the Chualar community on Friday, Jan. 16, as part of outreach and engagement efforts for the Chualar Community Plan process. The guided walk takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. starting at the Chualar Fire Station on Jackson Street and will be offered in English and Spanish. Residents and community members will be able to learn more about the preparation of the Community Plan and share feedback on topics related to improvements to sidewalks and other amenities, such as crosswalks, shade trees, accessibility and traffic safety improvements. The feedback will assist county staff in development and preparation of the Community Plan.
