GREENFIELD — Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a body that was found in the Salinas Riverbed near Greenfield on Sunday.

At about 9:40 a.m. on Dec. 14, a reporting party called in to say they had located a body. MCSO officials said the body is a female, who was found just outside the Greenfield city limits in the Salinas Riverbed, near the intersection of Elm Avenue and Metz Road.

On Tuesday, she was identified as 32-year-old Monica Yazaret Almanza Romero of Greenfield.

“The investigation into the cause of death is pending results of a forensic examination,” stated MCSO in a news release.
