SALINAS VALLEY — The cross country season ended for South Monterey County high schools on the Crystal Springs course in Belmont last Saturday at the Central Coast Section Championships.

Teams and individuals competing from King City, Greenfield, Soledad and Gonzales faced the best runners in the CCS for a chance to continue their season.

Incoming wet weather from the south did not interfere with the completion of the meet as all races were over just after 3 p.m.

Three of the four South County teams ran in the boys and girls Division IV races, expect for Soledad that competed in the Division III races.

In the Division IV boys race, Mills High School won the team competition. King City placed 12th as a team and Greenfield placed 15th.

Boys results were: Yael Hernandez (GRE) 15th place, 16:29; Fernando Merino (KC) 37th, 17:07; Ulises Aguilar (GRE) 52nd, 17:27.3; Victor Fierros (GO) 54th, 17:27.9; Ivan Diaz (KC) 59th, 17:36; Davis Arias (GRE) 66th, 17:47; Andre Garcia (KC) 74th, 17:58; Rodrigo Santiago (KC) 80th, 18:05; Cooper Martin (GO) 18:19: Edgar Martinez (KC) 18:20; Priscilano Garcia (GRE) 93rd, 18:28; Izaiah Valencia (KC) 94th, 18:29; Alfonso Garcia (KC) 96th, 18:36; Adrian Picazo (GRE) 97th, 18:36.6; and Alex Hernandez (GO) 105th, 19:39.

In the Division IV girls race, King City ran a complete team and placed 12th, while Greenfield and Gonzales ran individual runners. The winning team in the division was Scotts Valley.

Girls results were: Izoida Ramirez (GRE) 20th, 20:14; Rosa Pacheco (KC) 22nd, 20:15; Jocelyn Olivera (KC) 68th, 22:41; Arely Cortes (KC) 77th, 23:13; Lucero Fagoaga (KC) 78th, 23:14; Adriel Lambert (GO) 80th, 23:16; Karel Cornejo (GRE) 82nd, 23:39; Heidi Garcia (KC) 80th, 24:10; and Estrella Fagoaga (KC) 9th, 24:36.

Soledad’s Giovanni Zamudio placed 99th in the Division III boys race with a time of 20:27, and Evelyn Lopez placed 82nd in the Division III girls race with a time of 23:44.

Gonzales resident Davis Pisoni, a junior at Palma High, qualified for the State Meet as he placed fifth in the Division V boys race. The 16-year-old Pisoni is the son of Marc and Quinn Pisoni.

“I am happy to have qualified with my time to the State Meet,” Pisoni said. “It was fun to compete with my team at CCS as we worked very hard to make it.”

The California Interscholastic Federation State Meet will take place Saturday, Nov. 29, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
