GONZALES — City of Gonzales hosted the Resuse, Recycle and Cleanup Day on Saturday at Fairview Middle School.

Local residents brought in items for the free event and also took advantage of free compost giveaway.

Groups that participated in the Oct. 18 event included the Gonzales High School cross country team; Save the Whales; the Salinas Valley Recycles youth commissioners from throughout the Salinas Valley; Monterey County Environmental Health managing the oil and filter voucher program; Salinas Valley Recycles’ Household Hazardous Waste Program; and Tri-Cities Disposal and Recycling.

In addition, South County Animal Rescue was able to use many donated items, such as dog carriers and blankets, to help with its program.
