CHUALAR — County of Monterey staff will conduct a Technical Walking Audit in Chualar on Thursday, July 17, as part of the Chualar Community Plan initiative. Residents may notice county personnel and vehicles in their neighborhoods between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. County staff will not enter private properties. Residents are encouraged to ask questions; staff will display identification and provide contact details. The audit aims to develop strategies for a safer, more pedestrian-friendly Chualar. RODEO HALL OF FAME
SALINAS — California Rodeo Salinas has announced its 2025 Hall of Fame inductees, honoring individuals and groups who have significantly contributed to the rodeo’s rich history. Established in 2010, the Hall recognizes performers, contestants, volunteers, livestock and supporters who have left a lasting legacy. The 2025 inductees include contestant Ace Berry, personnel member Bobby Christensen Jr., the Jesus Esparza Family, staff member Fred McCargar and supporter Bruce Taylor. A bi-annual induction luncheon will be held Thursday, July 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Mike Storm Director’s Patio within the Salinas Sports Complex. The event will feature trophies, remarks from the inductees or their representatives, and celebration of their contributions. Tickets can be purchased at carodeo.com.
WATER SURVEY
SALINAS VALLEY — Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency (SVBGSA) is inviting residents to participate in a survey to better understand water use in rural communities. The Water Efficiency Pilot Program targets residents served by small water systems and private wells, aiming to promote sustainable groundwater management and water conservation. Participants who complete the survey will be entered into a monthly raffle for a $100 gift card to a local business. The survey is open until July 31. BONUS BRIEF: NEW EXHIBITION
SALINAS — ArtWorks @Salinas has opened a new exhibition featuring local artist Andy Williams and his collection titled “Monterey County: A Painter’s Chronicle – 40 Years in Steinbeck Country,” on view through Sept. 26. The exhibit highlights four decades of Williams’ evocative paintings capturing Monterey County’s landscapes, from Salinas fields to Fort Ord and the region’s rugged beaches. In addition to Williams’ work, the gallery presents luminous fused glass sculptures by Jill Casty, on display through Oct. 26, and a curated selection of acrylic paintings by Gregory Gallardo, aka “Gregorytheartist,” for a limited time. Throughout the exhibition period, ArtWorks @Salinas will also showcase a rotating lineup of resident artists, including “Monterey Spring” by Shagufta Khan in July, “Art on the Edge” by Edgar Lorenzo in August and “Blending the Abstract with the Fantastic” by Nate Stapleton in September.
