
GONZALES — Gonzales High’s track and field program hosted a banquet and awards night on June 4 at the school cafeteria.
The evening began with a catered dinner from Luigi’s Italian food. After dinner, head track coach Margie Daniels presented school certificates to student-athletes with high GPAs. Special certificates from the Central Coast Section were given to student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or better.
Daniels then presented certificates of achievement to all the team members present. Block G’s were given to athletes that had finished the season and earned a block for the first time ever. Pins and bars were handed out to athletes according to how many seasons they have competed in track and field.
Everyone in attendance then took a break as Coach Daniels set up her computer for the annual team slide show, featuring photos from this season and vintage photos from years past. After the slide show, Daniels presented poster prints to her senior athletes.
To conclude the evening, the coaching staff presented special team awards in the varsity girls and boys divisions.
Award winners for the girls were: Liz Baguio (Most Valuable Player); Carmen Sanchez (Outstanding Track Athlete); Jayleen Villasenor (Outstanding Field Athlete); Antonella Acosta (Rising Star); Alitzel Mauro (Coaches Award); Priscilla Hurtado (Beyond the Finish Award); Jackie Camacho (Captains Award); Maria Rivera (Rise and Run Recognition Award); Adriel Lambert (Most Improved); and Maryanne Camarena (Track and Field Merit).
Award winners for the boys were: Giovanni Ochoa (Most Valuable Player); Jonathan Chavez (Outstanding Track Athlete); Gabriel Barragan (Outstanding Field Athlete); Miguel Rosas (Most Improved); Cooper Martin (Spartan Spirit Award); Silvestre Arellanes (Spartan Spirit Award); Brandy Ochoa (Captains Award); Joshua Mariscal (Coaches Award); Aiden Borongan (Coaches Award); Alejandro Rodriguez (Coaches Award); Damian Amador (Rising Star); Jael Hernandez (Rising Star); RJ Flores (Black Arrow); and Noel Cuevas (Track and Field Merit).
