Joey Adame

GONZALES — Gonzales Unified School District Board of Trustees has named Joey Adame as the new superintendent, effective Jan. 1, 2025.

Adame, currently the superintendent of Los Molinos Unified School District, was chosen for his leadership in improving academic achievement and supporting student equity.

“Countless hours were spent by community members, staff and the Board in an effort to select the most qualified candidate,” stated the Board in a news release Nov. 8. “The Board wants to thank everyone involved for their contributions to the selection process.”

Adame has served the education community for more than 25 years as a school counselor, assistant principal, principal, director and most recently as the superintendent of Los Molinos, where he has worked for the past eight years.

According to the Board, Adame is well known for improving student academic achievement through the implementation of sustainable system changes that benefit students, parents, staff and the community at large.

“Adame recognizes the value of social and emotional programs for students and believes every kid needs a champion,” stated the Board. “His passion and commitment to student equity and learning has resulted in the increase in state academic performance at all the past schools where he served.”

In recent years, Adame has received several awards, including being honored as the C-STEM Superintendent of the Year by the University of California Davis and the Department of Education for his exemplary vision and leadership in supporting computing and STEM education.

Having worked in the fields as a youth, Adame “understands the power and value of education,” according to the Board.

“He brings a wealth of experience that will enable him to lead the District and help us fulfill our mission and vision,” added the Board. “Please join us in celebrating Dr. Adame’s appointment and welcoming him to our Gonzales community.”
