GREENFIELD — Victories against Cypress foes Notre Dame and St. Francis clinched the division championship for the Greenfield High volleyball team.
On Oct. 22, the Lady Bruins swept the host Notre Dame Spirits 3-0, and two days later they won the division title by blanking the visiting St. Francis Sharks in three games.
“The girls did it,” said Greenfield head coach Adrian Trujillo. “We played well on the road and then came through with a home win to claim the championship.”
In the win over Notre Dame in Salinas, sophomore Aleena Salas just missed double-figures in kills with eight and finished with five service aces. Kimberly Carpio added seven kills and made three blocks, and Layla Rodriguez contributed with seven kills.
At home with the Sharks, Salas hammered 14 kills and added 10 digs, while Carpio finished with 10 kills, seven blocks and four aces. Jocylyn Mendoza led the Bruins with 25 assists and had seven aces, and Emily Soto served nine aces and had six kills.
With the wins last week, Greenfield improved to 11-1 in the Cypress Division and are 20-6 overall. The Bruins hosted Rancho San Juan on Monday and will finish the regular season Wednesday night at home against North Salinas.
