SALINAS VALLEY — The Alliance on Aging (AOA) is set to launch a series of South County Solutions Summits aimed at addressing vital concerns for older adults and individuals with disabilities in Monterey County.
These summits will create an essential platform for community members to engage in discussions and collaborate on actionable strategies to tackle pressing local challenges, including transportation, healthcare access, social isolation, caregiving support and affordable housing.
“These summits are part of AOA’s commitment to building age- and disability-friendly communities, and all community members are encouraged to attend,” according to the Alliance on Aging.
Scheduled to take place between Oct. 10 and Oct. 24, the summits invite residents, service providers and local leaders to come together in an inclusive environment to share their experiences and develop a sustainable action plan that prioritizes livability in South Monterey County.
Summit Schedule:
- Gonzales: Thursday, Oct. 10, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Theodore’s Church
- Soledad: Thursday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Soledad Community Center
- King City: Monday, Oct. 21, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at King City Library
- Greenfield: Thursday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at American Legion Hall
“These summits are inclusive forums where community members from all walks of life can share their experiences and ideas,” stated AOA.
The AOA has announced a special moment during these summits: the official recognition of Monterey County as a member of AARP’s Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. This recognition, marking a milestone in the county’s commitment to enhancing livability for all residents, will be presented by Rafi Nazarians, AARP California’s Advocacy Director, with the date of the formal presentation to be announced soon.
