GONZALES — Food, frolic and awards were all in abundance during the Gonzales High School Track and Field Awards Night on May 30 at the Roger Fernando Gymnasium.
Athletes, parents and coaches celebrated the season in a casual event with fine linen and a delicious meal featuring tri-tip, chicken, desserts and cold drinks.
“This was a special awards night as we celebrated so much with our athletes, friends and families,” said Gonzales head coach and athletic director Margie Daniels. “It was a great season, and it was an honor to recognize our athletes’ achievements in the classroom and the track and field.”
Every athlete was presented with certificates of achievement and received pins to recognize their years of involvement in the track and field program. First-year varsity athletes received their block G for completing the season as members of the varsity team.
Many of the athletes received certificates from the high school and the Central Coast Section for maintaining high GPAs during the school year and the track and field season.
As is tradition at Gonzales, the lights in the gym were turned off so all in attendance could enjoy the track and field slideshow that was prepared by Coach Daniels. Memories from this year and previous seasons were viewed with a special thanks to all senior athletes that graduated on June 8.
