SALINAS VALLEY — Alliance on Aging’s 2024 Trashion Show in South Monterey County was a groundbreaking success, captivating more than 300 attendees with its innovative approach to transforming waste into wearable art.
Held at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City on Feb. 22, this unique event showcased the creativity and environmental consciousness of artists, environmentalists and community members by turning discarded materials into stunning fashion pieces.
This year’s theme was “Garden Party South County Style,” and featured 18 models walking the runway. Audra Vacarezza returned as Mistress of Ceremonies, while AOA Executive Director John McPherson provided welcoming remarks.
The sold-out show not only promoted sustainable practices, but also raised significant funds to benefit seniors throughout Monterey County, underlining the community’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges creatively.
Nicki Pasculli from the Alliance on Aging expressed excitement over the event’s ability to inspire a shift in perspective toward waste and sustainability.
“The Trashion Show has set a new standard for engaging and educating the community on the importance of waste management and has highlighted the Alliance on Aging’s dedication to supporting the senior community through innovative and meaningful initiatives,” Pasculli said.
