MUSIC IN THE PARK

GREENFIELD — City of Greenfield will present the first Music in the Park event featuring a Tribute to Selena on Thursday, Aug. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hicks Park, 315 El Camino Real, in Greenfield. Bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs and get ready to dance, sing along and celebrate the Queen of Tejano music during this free event for all ages. Scheduled performers will be singing Selena’s songs, and community members are also invited to take the stage and sing their favorite Selena hits. Call 831-210-5215 if interested in performing. “A delightful blend of live music, community spirit and outdoor ambiance, this year’s Music in the Park is a great opportunity to gather with family and friends to have a memorable experience in our lovely town,” stated the City.


ARTIST STUDIOS

SALINAS — An open house and ribbon cutting is planned for Friday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. to celebrate the opening of a new ArtWorks location in Downtown Salinas at 262 Main St. Arts Council for Monterey County’s Artworks Studios and Galleries program aims to provide affordable and collaborative spaces for local artists to showcase and create their art. During the open house, guests can explore the artist studios while enjoying light appetizers, wine and music by Franky Soto. The event also coincides with Downtown Salinas’ monthly First Friday Art Walk.


KITES WITH COPS

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Police Department will host a community event, Kites with Cops, on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 4 p.m. at Patriot Park in Greenfield. There will be a kite decorating contest, in which residents can bring their own decorated kite and show off their creativity and design skills with the theme “Soaring Together for a Safe Community.” Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners. In addition, a limited supply of free kites will be provided (not for the contest) as well as free ice cream.


BONUS BRIEF: LUNCHEON MEETING

KING CITY — Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated will host its monthly luncheon meeting Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 11:30 a.m. at King Kora Restaurant, 611 Canal St., in King City. The guest speaker will be Tony Virrueta, Republican candidate for State Senate in the 17th District. Virrueta will discuss the Monterey County Veterans Day Parade and his candidacy for State Senate.
