FREE NARCAN
GREENFIELD — Greenfield Police Department is offering free Narcan (limit one per household, while supplies last) for the community. Pick-up times are during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the station at 599 El Camino Real. “Opioid-related deaths, including those involving fentanyl, have been on the rise, especially among our youth,” police said. “It’s crucial that we work together to combat this issue.” Narcan is a life-saving nasal spray that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The person experiencing the overdose must still go to the hospital, but by having Narcan readily available, one could save the life of a loved one or community member. Police will also provide mental health and substance abuse resources to support those in need.
RABIES VACCINATIONS
MONTEREY COUNTY — SPCA Monterey County is reminding pet owners to keep their pets vaccinated, after a bat recently tested positive for rabies in the city of Seaside. Rabies, a vaccine-preventable, zoonotic, viral disease affecting the central nervous system, can be spread to people and pets if they are bitten or scratched by an animal with rabies. Once clinical symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal. The SPCA provides low-cost vaccinations, including for rabies, throughout the year. Appointments are required and can be made at spcamc.org/vax. The SPCA Veterinary Clinic is at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway across from Laguna Seca in Salinas.
