MEMORIAL FLAGS
SOLEDAD — Community members who have been impacted by the opioid crisis are invited to create and dedicate a flag to honor a person affected by opioids. A flag dedication opportunity is planned for Thursday, April 27, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Soledad Community Center, 560 Walker Drive. This is free to all, and flag and decorating supplies will be provided. The flags will be part of the Memorial Flag Event at Veterans Memorial Park in Soledad on Saturday, April 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. Experience a visual display of the impact the opioid crisis has on communities, meet those battling the crisis and hear city leaders speak on what the community can do to address it. Free Narcan kits will be available. In order to address this issue, the city is also partnering with Montage Health and Community Human Services to host the 2023 Virtual Recovery Run/Walk in May. There will be flags across Veterans Park to honor those lost to the opioid crisis and to those who are in recovery. For more information, call 831-658-3811.
TRANSIT NEEDS
MONTEREY COUNTY — Transportation Agency for Monterey County, in partnership with the Monterey-Salinas Transit District, is seeking public input on unmet transit needs. The process is required by the state’s Transportation Development Act under the Local Transportation Fund, which allocates a quarter cent of the general sales tax that is collected statewide and comes back to the County on a population basis to support public transit services. The agencies are asking community members to help define transit needs that the public transportation system is not currently meeting. Comments can be submitted by any of the following means through April 30: by mail, ATTN: Aaron Hernandez, 55 B Plaza Circle, Salinas, CA 93901; via email, aa***@ta**********.org; by phone, 831-775-4412; or through the online form at tamcmonterey.org/unmet-transit-needs.
