SALINAS VALLEY — For the second straight year, the Greenfield Bruins wrestling team is sitting on top of the Cypress Division and will hang another banner in their gym, while the Gonzales Spartans took second place.

The Bruins once again dominated the Cypress, having eight wrestlers capture first place in their respective weight classes. This is the second year in a row that Greenfield has won the Cypress Division.

Bruin wrestlers Adam Perez (106 pounds), Tomas Vargas (122), Kevin Cruz (132), Brandon Rodriguez (160), Jonathan Cruz (170), Jonathan Anaya (182), Marco Silva (220) and Misael Silva (285) were all champions and earned a spot in the Central Coast Section wrestling tournament.

Coming in second this year was the Bruins’ South Monterey County rival, the Gonzales Spartans.

The Spartans had two wrestlers earn first place, Jose Viorato (152 pounds) and Andrew Zarate (195). Second-place finishers were Gabriel Prieto (128), Marvin Peña (132), Giovanni Manzo (140) and Adrian Nunez (184).
