PARKS REOPEN
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Public Works, Facilities and Parks staff reopened nearly all county parks, including Manzanita Park, Royal Oaks Park, San Lorenzo Park and Toro Park, on Jan. 20 after removing immediate winter storm hazards and debris. Jacks Peak Park, however, will remain closed while staff works to remove a large volume of downed trees from trails and roads. The parks had been closed since Jan. 4 due to the severe storm. During this time, San Lorenzo Park did stay open for camping only and Lakes San Antonio and Nacimiento were open for camping and boating but trails were closed.
CHOWDER DINNER
KING CITY — Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum (MCARLM) presents the Drury Tankersley 28th Annual Clam Chowder Dinner on Friday, Jan. 27, at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. Takeout is from 3 to 7:30 p.m., with the sit-down dinner served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at King City Chamber of Commerce, LA Hearne, Pleyto Store, MCARLM, Pine Canyon Store, 1st Capital Bank, Hestia, Conaster Welding and Coastal Tractor. Event proceeds will benefit MCARLM.
SKATE PARK
GONZALES — City of Gonzales’ Skate Park will be closed from Jan. 18 through Feb. 7 for the remaining construction of Phase 2. The Skate Park at 203 First St. is one of the recreational facilities in Centennial Park. The project is funded by $178,800 in State Proposition 68 grants and $36,000 in City Public Facility Impact monies.
