GONZALES — Blue Zones Project Monterey County recently collaborated with Brighter Bites to host a cooking demonstration at La Gloria Elementary School in Gonzales.
About 30 residents attended the July 26 cooking demo presented by Antonio Vargas and Genevieve LeBlanc from Blue Zones Project, who demonstrated how to cook an easy and healthy cauliflower ceviche (cauliflower and garbanzo beans with salsa) and a fresh spring salad.
In addition, there was a demonstration of “Rethink Your Drink” to show the amount of sugar in common beverages, and the Brighter Bites team provided fresh produce to those in attendance.
According to Veronica Plascencia, senior marketing manager for BZPMC, the free event was “very well received” by the community, and a plan has been set with the Gonzales Unified School District for the well-being improvement initiative to provide more cooking demos in the future.
