GREENFIELD — Greenfield Union School District celebrated Earth Day with the unveiling of its district-wide solar array project on April 14.

The new panels have been installed across five sites throughout the district in Greenfield, and the project is expected to save $7.5 million over its lifetime.

The solar arrays will generate more than 2 million kWh of clean energy in the first year, the equivalent of 171 homes’ electricity usage for one year.

During the outdoor ceremony, school leaders and energy partner ENGIE provided brief remarks before hosting a ribbon cutting for the solar arrays installed at Mary Chapa Academy.
