SALINAS — Longtime Carmel-by-the-Sea stationery store, The Pleasure of Writing, has begun a partnership with the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas.
Celebrating the life and work of the Pulitzer- and Nobel-winning author of novels, including “Cannery Row,” “Sweet Thursday,” “The Grapes of Wrath” and “East of Eden,” the Steinbeck Center will now feature The Pleasure of Writing pens, inks and journals in its gift shop, with proceeds benefiting the museum.
“We’re thrilled to be in a partnership with The Pleasure of Writing. It’s a natural fit,” said Steinbeck Center Executive Director Michele Speich.
For years, The Pleasure of Writing has shared its passion for fine writing instruments, stationery and inks locally in Carmel-by-the-Sea and internationally via the web. In 2021, The Pleasure of Writing celebrated its 30th anniversary, featuring giveaways, special events and exclusive product collaborations with renowned partners and brands.
“We care both about the deep history of the business and where we are going,” said The Pleasure of Writing’s new business leader and owner Helmut J. Fritz. “We are focused on writing and the retail experience in general, and we’re excited to offer not just new products but an updated website, a commitment to customer service, and shopping innovation.”
These innovations include on-site laser engraving, as well as a concierge service that harvests the staff’s expertise for the gift-buying process. Over the summer, The Pleasure of Writing launched exclusive new products in collaboration with popular brands and most recently became an authorized retailer of Montblanc luxury goods, including writing instruments, leather accessories and select jewelry.
“The Pleasure of Writing has been a destination for pen enthusiasts and Carmel visitors alike,” Fritz said. “Given that status, it’s an honor to be recognized as a Montblanc authorized retailer, which not many independent retailers are.”
Fritz added that these new services and partnerships “demonstrate a commitment to exploring new ways The Pleasure of Writing can serve customers, and is complemented by an influx of high-tech and operational innovations.”
