GREENFIELD — Greenfield Police Department is looking for the person or persons responsible for desecrating statues, crosses and other memorial religious items and flowers left to honor deceased family members at the Greenfield Cemetery.
According to City Manager Paul Wood, the vandalism occurred Nov. 16 between 10 and 11 a.m., and local officers responded immediately after being notified at about 2 p.m. that day.
“An extensive investigation and interviews were conducted,” Wood said in a news release.
Family members responded to check on the status of loved ones’ grave sites after learning of the vandalism. Wood said officers spoke with the families and offered support.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted.
“Greenfield PD is also conducting day and nighttime extra patrols of the cemetery, and are in contact with both Holy Trinity and the Greenfield cemeteries,” Wood said.
