FIRE RESOURCES

MONTEREY COUNTY — Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce has released a resource guide for the Monterey County fires to assist those affected by the fires to respond to the crisis. The guide is available for free through the “Local Fire Resources” link on the chamber’s homepage at SalinasChamber.com.

NOTABLE CONNECTION

SAN LUCAS — Linda Darling-Hammond, the state board of education president for California, mentioned San Lucas Union School District among California schools that have prepared to meet the computer and connectivity needs for every student. The comment came during an Aug. 14 update from Gov. Gavin Newsom about his plans to help school districts bridge the digital divide while Covid-19 shutdowns require distance learning. All Monterey County schools are operating under distance learning after the county was placed on a watch list due to too many Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations. Darling-Hammond noted San Lucas as being an example of a rural school from a small community that met the needs of its students, alongside wealthier districts in Los Angeles and San Diego.
