SOLEDAD — Local veterans gathered with members of Soledad American Legion Post 32 on Monday at Soledad Cemetery for a Memorial Day ceremony.
The main speech was delivered by Capt. Pete Gomez of the U.S. Marine Corps, who is a senior naval science instructor at Soledad High School.
Gomez reminded that the word “free” comes with a price, and went on to share active duty memories of having to deal with fallen comrades. He urged all Americans to pay tribute to the service members who lost their lives during the course of the nation’s history.
“We must continue to live for them. Their deaths meant something,” Gomez said. “Their sacrifices are the foundation of our nation’s freedom, and for this we shall never forget the meaning of earning this.”
The May 25 ceremony was streamed live for people to watch on the Soledad Police Department’s Facebook page at facebook.com/SoledadPolice.
