MONTEREY COUNTY — There are now five confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Monterey County as of Friday, up one from yesterday’s announcement, according to the latest report from Monterey County Health Department.
Four of the cases are travel-related, and the other is from person-to-person transmission (someone who was in contact with another coronavirus patient either in a home, business or health care setting).
Following the county’s first two positive COVID-19 cases announced earlier this week, Salinas Valley Memorial confirmed that two more patients had tested positive for the virus after they arrived separately at the Salinas hospital Thursday. A fifth individual was reported in today’s update from the county.
As of March 19, Monterey County Health Department’s Public Health Laboratory has completed COVID-19 testing for 202 people.
The health department plans to release the next updated report on Monday, March 23.
