SALINAS — The Salinas Juneteenth Celebration Association and Hartnell College will host the Third Annual Salinas Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 17, with the theme “Unearthing the Past, Cultivating the Future.”
This free event is open to the public and includes live music, food, craft vendors and more. The history of Juneteenth celebrates African American freedom and focuses on educating people about the importance of this day in the country’s history.
Juneteenth is a newly recognized national holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
Salinas’ Juneteenth celebration will feature various activities, from live performances and a freedom fashion show to kids’ activities, vendors and community partners. This event aims to highlight the community’s Black history, culture, food, music and businesses.
“Freedom is a constant yet beautiful struggle,” said organizer Asya Guillory. “We invite everyone to enjoy this memorable event as we celebrate African-American liberation.”
The Salinas Juneteenth Celebration will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at Hartnell College, 411 Central Ave., in Salinas.
“This year’s Juneteenth celebration will be an exciting day full of fun and learning for all ages,” added Kendra Cabrera. “Come join us for an unforgettable experience celebrating African-American history and culture in our city.”
The Salinas Juneteenth Celebration Association’s mission is to host Black and African culturally-centered events in the Salinas Valley. The purpose is to ensure the visibility and preservation of the city’s Black and African American community members and their cultural contributions to Salinas’ local history.
